SPC-909 Aircraft Coating Remover is a faster acting neutral product for depainting aircraft and complies with Boeing, Airbus, Saab, Fokker and MIL specifications. Other coating removers such as Formic Acid based will stop activating after 3 to 5 hours and suppliers recommend additional applications. SPC-909 will keep activating for
much longer often eliminating the need for repeat applications.

Recommended Applications

SPC-909 Aircraft Coating Remover will remove Polyurethane, Epoxy and other coatings from most substrates without damage (refer to SMI report). The product replaces formic acid based, toxic chlorinated and caustic products, has little odour, allowing other adjacent work to continue.

Fast Acting

SPC-909 is a fast acting residue remover. It penetrates through the residue layers, and breaks the bond between the solid surface and the residue. As a result the residue will separate from the surface. Performance time will depend on the nature and number of the residue, their thickness and the ambient temperature. If the temperature of the surface to be cleaned is elevated the removal of the residue can be dramatically reduced. At lower temperatures, the process can last longer.

Easy to Use

SPC-909 is preferable sprayed on the desired surfaces by utilizing an airless sprayer but can also be applied by brush or roller on smaller sections. Allow SPC-909 to lift the residue completely before removing with water pressure or scraper.

Reduces Health and Enviromental Risks

SPC-909 is designed to minimise health and environmental risks. It is non carcinogenic and contains no toxic elements. It also reduces the amount of hazardous waste generated. SPC-909 is a water based product which is acid activated. Although containing very small amounts of acid, wearing protective gloves and goggles or face protection is recommended (for details, read the Safety Data Sheet)

Avoid direct contact of the product with skin. Wear chemical splash goggles, rubber boots and gloves. Areas in direct contact with product including clothing should be washed thoroughly with water. Product may cause slight eye irritation and harmful if swallowed. Read label and MSDS before use.

Compatablity

DO NOT allow SPC-909 to be extended contact with rubber and plastics.

Directions of Use

When applied to the surface, SPC-909 breaks the bond between the solid substrate and the residues. Sometimes, when working with multiple layers or combinations of various residues, re-application of SPC-909 may be required.

Coverage - When brushing or spraying a coverage of less than 1 litre per square metre of surface is possible. Where there are
multiple layers or paints of high percentage solids additional product may be required.

Flash Point - > 100oC

Preperation -

  1. Check OEM manuals for appropriate masking procedures.
  2. Masking tape should be MIL-T-23397B, type II or similar.
  3. Tape must be applied to clean surfaces and the edges pressed down with a piece of plastic to ensure adhesion.
  4. Check windows from inside the aircraft for light shining through.

Site Conditions - It is recommended that temperatures are above 15oC. The product works better at warmer temperatures. When working outside the protection of the hanger tentage or canopies may be required to eliminate effects from wind and rain. Good ventilation should be provided to confined areas.

Applications - When applying by BRUSH or ROLLER it is important to use a soft medium and apply generously to ensure an even
and adequate coverage.
For best results use airless SPRAY equipment. Chemical resistant piston pumps larger than 2 hp or capable of above 2000 psi should be used.
Nozzle Tip - 0.53 to 0.79 (0.021 to 0.031")
Spray Angle - 65 to 80o
A rubber squeegee should be used for removal prior to water rinsing. High pressure wash and steam cleaners increase removal rates and reduce water usage. Care should be taken when using high pressure water that damage can occur to the substrate if pressure is too high, but it is important to thoroughly wash steel and aluminium substrates.

Dwell Time - When using chemical removal products the first rule is not to remove them until they have been given time to work.
It is therefore recommended that a minimum dwell time of 3 hours should be given. SPC-909 will not dry out quickly and can be left overnight. When removing high solid speciality coatings a dwell time of 12 hours or longer may be required. Patch tests are very important.

Repainting - Thorough or pressurised rinsing will remove all paint and product from the surface. Prior to painting the surface
must be completely dry. Paint manufacturer's guideline should be adhered to for required surface preparation.

Handling and Disposal - All containers are HDPE and can be punctured or split if not handled with appropriate care. Pails and drums must be secured during transportation to prevent damage. Lids, cap and closures must be tightened when products are being transported. SPC-909 is produced from organic chemicals and is fully biodegradable. Neutralising and dilution with water will be required to meet local waste or sewage disposal requirement. Seek advise on local authority requirements
before disposal. Spills should be contained and disposed under the same requirements.

Storage - Coating Remover SPC-909 should be stored in a cool dry environment. Extended storage at temperatures exceeding 35oC is not advised and may reduce the products efficacy. All containers must be sealed properly when stored.
